A Bit of Weirdness
Apr. 17th, 2012 07:35 pmIt's quite common to read, after a disaster, about the people who were near-misses. I think
still_lycoris and
emeraldsword and I were discussing this the other week after we went to see Titanic in 3D.
But you never kind of hear of things happening to people- a random chain of events that seem insanely nonsensical at the time but what if they had a purpose.
Take today for instance. I was all set to finish late. Just before five I receive an email that means I think I can finish on time. I go to the toilet and when I'm back my co-worker has taken a call that sounded ominous and the person then emailed me. I resigned myself to staying a little longer and went to work on the email. Twenty minues later as I was walking out of the building I realised I'd left my mobile in my desk. Normally I would go back for it but this time I went 'sod it' and carried on walking.
Only to see someone choking/ill just on the way where the cars come out of the building. She'd obviously been in her car, choked and got out onto the side. A lot of people were around helping her so they didn't really need me, but I went over and asked if they wanted me to ring for assistance. Then I ran back to the office and rang for an emergency line. And also picked up my phone on the way.
By the time I'd got back the lady and the women helping her had gone to A&E and security were coming to move the sick lady's car so that the cars could get past. I stopped to speak to the ambulence men and some other people I know to find out whether the girl was okay and then got in the car to drive home.
To be stuck in an enormous traffic jam. I crawled along and discovered just past the roundabout there had been some sort of big accident and there was a police car and three other cars which have either spun or been pushed out of the road into the hedges either side.
By the time I got home I was starving, and tired beyond belief. But it was just such a strange string of events- the email that was good then not good, then forgetting my phone- if I had gone back for it if I normally had I wouldn't have seen that girl, but I wasn't a great deal of use. So I was like "That felt like a kind of purposeful set of events- but why would God set them off? To what purpose?" and mum suggested that in all probability had I not had that odd string of co-incidences I would most likely have been over the roundabout when that accident was about to happen.
Weird, huh?
