Resting the Pins
Dec. 5th, 2014 09:57 pmI'm certainly not going to finish the Fry before work tomorrow, unless I am struck with an uncharacteristic bout of insomnia. My own fault, despite getting home slightly earlier than usual the evening has drifted past me. I am exhausted though- after the usual Friday presenation began the real preparations for Monday, 54 chairs shifted, tables moved, presenting stands set out, labels attached, signs everywhere, attendane sheets, badges, programmes, feedback forms- the usual paraphenalia.
Got in with my feet feeling like I'd spent the day on my feet in the library job as opposed to the day job- ow- to find Mum looking rather upset. Long story short the shelves just put up pulled the brackets out of the wall the moment she put things on them and the whole collection landed mostly on her poor head. I was very worried! I'm just glad she wasn't seriously hurt, but she's more cross at the hours wasted over the past few weeks getting the brackets and the wood for the shelves cut...or re-cut and then winced over as Nanny stole a jigsaw and proceeded to botch the job by cutting half too small and half too big. *sigh*.... (I would've been quite happy with just paying a little man at Mamby's to make shelves bespoke but Nanny absolutely refused to countenance it and as when Mum is in town she is Always There.
You get the idea.
But yes, Mum is unharmed, as far as I can tell, but was upset. She seems to have buoyed up now after I've shown her several hilarious things on tumblr and buzzfeed and she is now giggling away at QI.
Work tomorrow is my last one before Christmas I think so that'll be quite nice. In a slightly gloomy way though as I am thoroughly expecting, come January, to be informed my job is "at risk" by virture of being due to being made obsolete (the new structure we have seen provides no posts for Saturday Assistants). But, rather me and Lulu than those for whom the job is their only job, rather than a pleasant second job.
