Babblesome Things
Aug. 26th, 2011 07:15 pmIt's lovely being on leave. Absolutely lovely. The only difficulty is that I have to keep motivating myself to do the sort of stuff I intended to do whilst off (mostly battling with the hovel); I managed to do two binbags of clothes and bedding and one of books to the Charity Shop on Wednesday which was something of a start, and a bag of old boots to the shoe-recycling place.
Yesterday, as belated for my mum's birthday, we went to the Lake District. We went first to the Keswick Pencil Museum, which may sound like something from Thanks for the Sardine by Laura Beaumont's Iron Filings Museum but it is actually rather good. It's based at where the Derwent Factory was for many years, and the company were also responsible for making the the pencils with maps and compasses hidden in during the War.
We had a good time, and also walked into Keswick a bit and such. We stayed overnight at the YHA Ambleside, which is RIGHT ON Lake Windermere so we could look out over the lake.
So yes. It was fun. We also walked around the remains of the Roman Fort and got soaking wet feet and legs from the dew on the thick grass.
We got home to find the yart all moved around and so that constituted a small paddy, and then Mum went off the St Bede's. In between other things I am currently trying the Archive Of Our Own Meme put forward by
ruuger because I think it is a nifty idea, and also because I am one of the many who is guilty of not giving feedback when I should. I'm only up to point 2 but I'm trying.
