After a very pleasant little sojourn further up North for my birthday week, I awoke on Saturday morning at 2am from a dream in which I was in a bookshop which was spinning round in circles around me whilst someone tried to talk to me about inconsequential things, and was rather ill. I am still not sure whether I am actually mildly stomach-bug-y or whether this was simply brought on by the horrifying amount of worry the prospect of going back to work always gives me. SO MUCH STRESS. THINGS CAN HAPPEN IN A WEEK and I WAS NOT THERE. Etc, etc, etc. Even if I was ill I would still go in anyway so it really makes no odds.

But yes we had a good little holiday pottering around places- not as much walking as possibly would have liked but we did not have the weather for it, but I went swimming (with Lycoris looking after me and being reassuring) and felt very brave for it. (Full story is too long and dull, short of it is: I used to love swimming but only learned tiny amount of basics, stopped being able to, was once shouted at by someone in a pool as a kid, became stupidly terrified of attempting to swim in public). My Auntie and Uncle were in Morcambe for a bit of the week and we met up there and they treated me to afternoon tea for a birthday present which was lovely of them, and it was very good to see them. We walked along where there were statues of cormorants and pretended to be cormorants too (And yes, I did quote Swallows and Amazons as I do EVERY TIME cormorants are involved) So that was good, and we watched films and stuff too. Oh, and HOW COOL, on the last night just as we were about to crawl to bed as we were really tired we heard two owls calling and what we think was a rabbit screaming. Lyc and I opened the door to the caravan to see if we could see anything and saw the wings of an owl taking flight from the tree just outside. We put on shoes and followed the call but didn't see anything else- it is true countryside blackness out there- we wouldn't have seen anything at all if it hadn't been for the lights from us opening the door. I looked it up afterwards (we were all far too tired to identify owl cries at that time of night) and I'm pretty sure they were tawny owls. AWESOME.

On my return Nanny gave me my present which included some cookbooks (ooh!) and my bodyweight in sweets which was also delightful. Thankfully, the world still existed without us for the week and so on Monday work on the New House begins again in earnest- there is a man coming to see about the radiator system, which is the next task that must be done before we can do the important part of GETTING CARPETS in. Fingers crossed he remembers!
